Water conservation advocates are calling on the San Antonio Water System to cease permits for service to new developments over the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone until a plan for growth can be established. T he Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance wants to ensure less ground cover for the area that refills our water supply. The announcement comes as SAWS continues its negotiations with Vista Ridge for the largest non-Edwards water supply in the city's history. The deal makes many conservation advocates nervous as the sudden influx of expensive water could incentivize SAWS to be focused on selling rather than conserving water. The Edwards Aquifer also sits precariously on the precipice of stage four drought restrictions, an unprecedented threshold.
